So here comes the day, we all wait for, at home – the iftar
party. We usually hold it on the 3rd Saturday of ramzan, where
everyone from the family comes over for the iftar and we enjoy a lot. Delicious
delicacies are made and a variety of fruits are bought over. Everyone gets
together at dastarkhwan to break their fasts and then begins a huge party-like
hungama.
After the maghrib prayers, everyone sits together for a
small get-together and laugh out loud over jokes cracked by some of our most
amusing family members. Sweets are served over and we enjoy them over a laugh.
The men of the house go to masjid for the night prayers and only come after
10.30 pm at night. By the time, all the ladies of the house get to the kitchen
to make together dinner for everyone. After everyone gathers again, all the
elders of the family distribute Eidi to the young ones. We are all excited to
receive our Eidis from the elders and boast over who gets the maximum from
everyone.
Eid preparations are discussed over and all the girls start
discussing what they have bought this time as their Eid wear. Everyone is busy
showing off their designing skills to everyone. By the time, the ladies call
out for dinner and everyone present, enjoys a sumptuous dinner which ends with
a cool sharbat made of jiggery and lemon.
After dinner, begins everybody’s departure. Everyone begins
collecting their items, children and things they had got along while coming
here for the iftar, and then a huge farewell takes place. Everyone is invited,
again for the usual Eid party on the 2nd day of Eid-ul-Fitra.
Eid is patiently and eagerly awaited by one and all.
